The method

How a figure is obtained, and why it holds.

A score you cannot explain does not survive three minutes in front of an auditor or a procurement team. Here is the method that produces the figures across the STRATA ESG ecosystem, published in full, with its version and its date. Nothing requires us to. That is exactly why it is published.

The six principles

What governs every calculation.

The calculation is deterministic

Same data in, same result out, today and in two years. No value produced by a generative process ever enters a score, an index or a projection. Extraction and drafting are assisted, the calculation never is.

What it changes

You can replay an analysis in front of a third party and get the same figure, to the decimal.

Every value traces back to its document

An entered figure is linked to the document that founds it, to its version, its date and the calculation method applied. The link is navigable both ways: from a figure to its documents, and from a document to everything that depends on it.

What it changes

You know where a value comes from, and what moves elsewhere if you correct it.

Absence is displayed as absence

Missing data is flagged as missing. It is never quietly estimated, never replaced by a sector average, never filled with a default value that would give the illusion of a complete file.

What it changes

An incomplete file shows. That is uncomfortable, and it is what makes it defensible.

Performance and reliability stay separate

The sustainability score says where you stand. The reliability index says whether your file will hold under verification. The two are never merged into a single rating, because their average means nothing.

What it changes

You can tell a good but fragile file from an average but solid one.

A collapsed sub-index caps the overall one

The reliability index is not compensatory. If one of its components collapses, the overall index is capped rather than rescued by the others. A file at ninety-five on completeness and twenty on traceability is not good, it is dangerous.

What it changes

No average dresses up the weak point that will fail the verification.

The trail is continuous, not point in time

Every correction adds a dated and justified version to the journal, it overwrites nothing. Documents are sealed by fingerprint and chained, so a retroactive change to history shows.

What it changes

The state of your file at a past date can be reconstructed, with the method then in force.

Assurance levels

Not every figure carries the same weight, and we say so.

Every value carries an assurance level computed on read, never stored as a frozen status. The level falls back on its own the day the certificate supporting it expires, which a recorded status would not do.

Declared

The value was entered, with no document attached. It counts, but it proves nothing.

Evidenced

A dated document supports the value, and it sits in the vault.

Corroborated

The value is cross checked against a second source, independent of the first.

Verified

A third party checked the value and their check is recorded in the journal.

The limits

What the method does not do.

A method that does not state its limits is not a method, it is a sales pitch. Here are ours, and we stand by them.

  • Our scores are indicative. They do not replace an audit by a registered statutory auditor, they provide the file that audit can rely on.
  • We issue no official rating and no certification. We prepare a file, we do not validate it in place of an authorised third party.
  • We never say that a file grants access to funding, to a rate or to eligibility. That is not our trade and it would be an unverifiable claim.
  • We do not claim conformity with a registered method that only its owning association can attest to. We rely on official factors, sourced and dated.
  • A regulatory diagnostic is produced by applying public rules to your answers. It does not constitute legal advice.

The log

This page has a version, and it will change.

A method published without a version or a date commits nobody. This one carries both. Every change will be dated, and a principle that stopped being true would be removed from here the same day and moved to the log of retracted claims.

Methodological document, published voluntarily. It describes the calculation principles applied across the products of the STRATA ESG ecosystem and has no contractual value.

These principles apply inside ESG Optimizer, the cockpit where the data lives.
